ShareX is a feature-rich utility that comes in handy if you need to immediately take snapshots and share them with other people within moments. It also provides you with tools for video recording screen activity, identifying color codes, testing your display, and so much more.
The program lives on your system tray from where you can access its integrated tools. You can also define global hotkeys for immediately completing the aforementioned tasks, without moving your mouse cursor over the system tray area.
Unlike many other tools of its kind, this program comes with a wide range of capturing modes (even a Freehand mode), many image editing options, built-in OCR technology (scans regions from your screen and lets you export the identified text content), etc.
In my testing, the utility worked perfectly. Even though I have no graphic design experience, I had no problem configuring the app's settings according to my needs and got the quality results I needed.
The only aspects I'd change about this application would be adding support extra output formats. Now, the app lets you export snapshots to only 5 formats: PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF. You can save video recordings to the following formats: MP4, GIF, WEBM, and AVI.
Still, the aforementioned file formats are very popular and compatible with a wide variety of Windows applications.
All in all, ShareX proves to be a reliable solution for taking screenshots and recording screen activity on your computer. It provides you with plenty of useful features, has easy-to-configure settings, and offers you quality output files in no time. Plus, it's free.
